Open Science

As part of the DigiWELL project, we are committed to using the principles of open science, which means applying the rule “open as possible, as closed as necessary” to all aspects of our research, for both scientists and the general public. The goal of this approach is to facilitate the dissemination of scientific outputs, regardless of their form. This ensures the reproducibility of research results and makes it easier for any scientist worldwide to build on our research (for example, by combining it with other datasets).

We primarily publish our scientific papers in Open Access, which guarantees access to research results for anyone in the world. The general public should have direct access to current scientific knowledge. Secondarily, our goal is to improve the quality of outputs and simplify communication among scientists.

To share research results promptly and openly, we publish pre-prints. We publish scientific articles on pre-print servers. This allows us to share research results before the peer review process, which takes several months. This approach is very important for our project, as we work in a very dynamic research area.

By publishing pre-prints, we also adopt an open peer review process. A wider community is involved in the review process, with their reviews published alongside the relevant article. We aim to increase the quality of scientific publications and support scientific discussion and collaboration, primarily focusing on greater transparency.

We recognize the need to involve the general population in scientific life, which is why we apply the Citizen science approach within the project. This connects professional and amateur scientists who cooperate. This connection is beneficial for both parties – scientists obtain more data at lower costs, and the civic society discovers new insights.

We publish our research data in accordance with the FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable). This simplifies reusability. Our published data are thus Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable. More about our data and approach can be found in the DATA section.
