In recent months, energy drinks have gained attention from the public as well as lawmakers. A new one has recently appeared on the market, which has immediately gained a reputation among young people as “status symbol” and sparked a debate about possible regulation of the sale of these types of products. There is serious consideration being given to the idea that minors should not be legally allowed to purchase energy drinks. The reasons why this drastic measure may be taken in the foreseeable future were discussed in the podcast Wave of Czech Radio along with experts in nutrition, psychology, and a member of the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Republic, Petr Baďura, a representative of the HBSC study (Health Behaviour in School-aged Children) and the head of one of the research work packages within the DigiWELL project. If you want to learn more about the dangers of consuming energy drinks, where the threshold of risky use lies, how many young Czechs regularly indulge in this energy boost, or what the connection is between “energy drinks” and the use of social media and gaming, it is summarized here in approximately half an hour: https://wave.rozhlas.cz/ctyri-espressa-v-jedne-plechovce-energeticke-drinky-jsou-rizikovy-trend-mezi-9163126.
